About Us
Serving the Muslim community with authentic Islamic guidance, education, and community service since 2006 in state of Michigan.
Mission And Objectives
The Ulama Council of Michigan (formally Ulama Council of Detroit) was founded in 2006 out of inspiration from verse of the Quran that calls upon a band of Muslims to uphold the banner of righteousness in their communities: “Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity” (3:104). The leaders of this “band of Muslims” are surely the righteous scholars who uphold the Prophetic legacy, as the Prophet (S) himself has said in the hadith: “The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets.”
In light of this inspiration from the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah, the Ulama Council of Michigan serves the muslim communities of the State of Michigan by providing Islamic guidance and resources through education, availability of scholarship, and community service. The Council is comprised of highly-qualified Muslim scholars (ulama) trained in traditional Islamic sciences.
The Council’s mission is to serve muslims of the State of Michigan in matters of their Islamic faith. It strives to uphold the authentic teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, as understood by the Sahabah R.A.(companions of the Prophet S.A.W.) and early generations of Muslims, the Mujtahid Imams, and the Awliya. The vision of the Council is to provide holistic Islamic guidance and promote healthy interactions with communities in Michigan.
In order to fulfill this mission, some of the Council’s specific objectives are as follows:
Operating the “Ask an Imam” program through our Dar al-Ifta Department
Monitoring and certifying Halal meat in local stores and restaurants
Announcing moon sighting in observation of the Islamic lunar calendar
Providing networking and mentorship opportunities for newly-trained ulama
Supporting new Muslims during their transition into Islam
Organizing high quality Islamic programs, seminars, retreats, and workshops for all ages
Collaborate hand-in-hand with existing institutions and initiatives in order to better our communities
All success is from Allah Most High, and from Him do we seek support and guidance.
